The GST-1 GPS Sentence Translator
© 2000-2003 by: Dan Welch - W6DFW and Byon Garrabrant - N6BG
The GST-1 (GPS Sentence Translator) is a small,
microcontroller based serial device designed to translate
Rockwell Binary format, as used in the original DeLorme Earthmate (shown to the left)
and Sony SkyMap serial GPS receivers, to
NMEA-0183 version 2.0 sentences.
The GST-1 can not be used with PCMCIA card GPS receivers.
The NMEA output allows the Earthmate GPS to be used with
other software mapping programs as well as Amateur Radio
Terminal Node Controllers, (TNC's), commonly used for APRS
positional trackers.
Note: If you are using a Palm device you will need an external power cable
for the Earthmate which will also power the GST-1.
Note: The GST-1 is not compatible with the newer Delorme Earthmate (show to the right).
This new Earthmate is USB based, and already supports the NMEA-0183 format.
